Can I read about the StoneWater bears forever? I love them. So cuddly and well-fed. And Russian! Cool entry into this world.

Reread 12/7/19: I adore Silver and Valentin! Silver especially, now that I've read the rest of the series. She's amazing and then her big teddy bear love joins her <3 Nalini Singh knows what's up.

Silver Silence by Nalini Singh – Would I have picked a bear shifter for Silver F#@$ing Mercant? Probably not. But Valentin is kinda perfect for my second favorite personal assistant who starts running the world on her own like an Amazonian Badass (Sorry Pepper Potts is always gonna be my #1)! It reads like duology, and it is massive enough that many writers would have probably published it that way. And I honestly can’t tell you which half of the book I liked better because I was immediately and irrevocably invested in these two generous souls who just want to make the world a better place. Other than watching these two try and out-scary one another, the wilderness magazine is going to be your new favorite tension breaker. I laughed until I cried! Happy Reading!

💬: "The Trinity Accord is the fragile foundation of all their hopes and dreams of a future without war, without violence, without shattering loss. It is a noble ambition. But the past is not an old coat that can be discarded and forgotten. It is a scent that clings and clings and clings.

Silver Silence is the 16th book in the Psy/Changeling series and 1st in the Psy/Changeling Trinity series both by Nalini Singh. This book is about Silver Mercant, a Psy and Valentin Nikolaev, an alpha bear. Silver is stationed at Valentin's bear compound where she's been helping keep an eye on things since the Trinity Accord as been established. Silver gets poisoned and almost dies as a result and now Silver along with the Mercant family and Valentin are looking for the culprit.

This book had stuff going on but it really FELT like nothing was happening for the duration of the book. Silver gets poisoned at the beginning so I assumed this book would be about hunting down the culprit and they eventually do that but it takes so long. Valentine courted Silver and it was a cute story but it went by so slowly, this book took me 4 weeks (A WHOLE MONTH) to finish because there was very little action on the page. I'm actually disappointed with how boring this was.

The spicy scenes were below average for me,  there were two of them and they weren't my favorite scenes. I'm not a huge fan of the virgin heroine and the painful first time, the second scene was a little better but still just "okay". I'm giving it two chilies 🌶️🌶️ out of five chilies

Overall, Silver Silence was just okay but it was definitely on the boring side. I'm giving this book 3 stars out of 5.

This book felt so different from her usual Psy-Changeling series and in the most positive way.
The story starts off with Valentin facing off Silver and trying to court her, and reading about his shenanigans was hilarious.
I liked the distinction that Nalini Singh managed to set, where leopards and wolves may be similar in their behaviour but the bears were very different. It gave a refreshing feeling to read about a new changeling group with their unique quirks. Their unserious nature was what made it feel so silly and fun to read about. Valentin as a character was my favourite, because he's the epitome me of "i'm not going to do that.....fuck it i just did it". Unlike the leopards and wolves too, I'd say he's the first changeling mate I read about that didn't want Silver to leave Silence and never really pushed her to as soon as he found out it could hurt her.
Silver was so interesting to read about as well, her bonding with Valentin was unexpected but upon closer look, made perfect sense. for someone as uptight as Silver it only made sense she had a more relaxed counterpart. Also the way she threatens anyone that could hurt Valentin???
Literally ready to kill Sergey and threatening his MOTHER because no one got to kick her gentle bear's heart
It's so cool to see a Psy mate be the one that went out of her way to protect her mate who was 'gentler'.
Whatever Nalini Singh was trying to do with Psy-Changeling Trinity, I hope she's achieved it with Silver Silence because this was so so so good.

It was nice to go back to the older feel of Nalini Singh’s books and to be so focused on the Changelings which are my favorite. But I would be lying if I didn’t say I really missed all the characters we’ve spent over 10 years with. Nalini Singh is a master at the paranormal romance genre and she’s done an amazing job with this exceptional world. I had very high expectations for this book and a lot of excitement over a new era of the Psy as they begin to live outside of Silence. I can say that for the most part, this book lived up to those expectations and set forth a lot of new characters, groups, and packs to follow. Silver Silence was a bit of a throwback to the earlier books in the series and I really appreciated that because I love that earlier vibe.

The bears are fun loving, charming, partiers with the biggest hearts. After seeing so much of DarkRiver and SnowDancer I found StoneWater to be a bit more primitive in their nature; I’m not sure if it’s because they’re bears (likely) or because they’re Russian (possibly). They’re not as “in” with the humans or Psy so their experiences have been more isolated and they are just starting to become a force in their region. Valentin was this great big cuddly bear on one side and a very primal, protective man on the other side. He was an interesting mix of the danger we got in Hawke (SnowDancer Alpha) and the charm we got in Lucas (DarkRiver Alpha). I loved his devotion to Silver, even when he realized it meant he could lose her forever.

Silver has been a quiet presence in the background of Kaleb’s business so it was nice to get to know more about her. I also found the Mercant family to be really interesting in light of all we know about the Silence Protocol. The Mercants managed to find ways to maintain their family and principals while also becoming outwardly cold enough that no one would mess with them. I’d love to see more of the family, particularly Arwen, since being an E-Psy means he’s already far along the path of dropping Silence.

There were some phrases that got quite repetitive by the end of the story. For example, “Silver Fucking Mercant” was used 25 times, primarily in the 2nd half of the book, so it felt very heavy handed.

One area I’m still looking for improvement on is the type of Psy we’re being presented with. I felt like in the beginning of the series we had powerful Psy (Sascha, Faith, Ashaya) but their stories were more about embracing emotion in a race that shunned it and what it would mean to give up being Psy. The more recent books have been about Psy with furious, extraordinary powers (Kaleb, Vasic, Aden, Silver) that they have to control at all costs and this is why they are reluctant to embrace emotion. Basically, I liked the more internal reflection on moving away from the norm and embracing who you are as opposed to the current model of my powers will be out of control. Where are all the average Psy? The ones who have less dangerous powers but still struggle with embracing emotions they’ve never felt before in their life. I don’t mind strong Psy but I’d like something different every once in a while to mix things up.
