Tbh I think this is a 5/5

I absolutely loved this book. Yes mostly because of how toxic Dimitri was but their tension and angst and love and everything even while he was a strigoi!??!??

God you best believe I was here for it and so happy for all the twists along the way. I’m so excited for the next book!!!

Sin duda este libro me gusto mucho pero mucho mas que todos los anteriores, en el pasaron todas esas cosas con las que estuve soñando que pasaran desde unos libros sin mencionar que me siento totalmente enamorada de Adrián.

One gif summarizes this:

And to think the other three books were so good. What saved it from falling into the trap where 'girl constantly cannot get over her tru-luv and spends page after page obsessing over him' was her friends and what was going on at the Academy.

Lets hope the last two books are better.

I guess now that Rose is away from school we're just gonna pretend it's fine that her 24-year-old teacher slept with a child. This book also made me realize how odd the concept is Strigoi is. Becoming a Strigoi alters someone's personality in a very specific way, so they're like the same person with the same memories and hobbies, except... evil?? It's really weird.
This series also keeps reusing the plot point of characters behaving poorly because of spirit, and it just makes the characters kind of annoying.

Reread June 21st, 2021
This was... okay. The last quarter is absolutely amazing, but everything before that ranges from meh to eh. Which is to say, it was a bit slow and I skimmed the middle a bit. I was excited to see Abe, my fave! He's the best. The side plot with Lissa is kind of boring. I'm glad things seem to be (as of the ending) moving more positively in Adrian's direction, because I think he's earned it. It was cool to see Russia, and I enjoyed that part. Sydney is the main character in Bloodlines, the spinoff series, and it was interesting to see her here. I like her. I (rightly) wasn't much of a fan of Strigoi Dimitri.
SpoilerBut hey, I'm rereading and I know what happens there!
So overall, while I didn't love a lot of this, it does come together in a very fun, exciting way at the end. 3.5 stars.

I enjoyed the new setting and seeing Rose have figure things out for herself in Russia. I loved reading about Dimitri's family and learning about where they lived. It was great to meet new characters one of my favorites was definitely Sydney. I hope to find out more about the Alchemists later in the series. I can't wait to see what happens next.
