Meh. I was really excited about this since I love the legend of the "Rattenfänger von Harlem", but while it began very promisingly, it fell short for me in terms of the ending and when it came to character's motivations.
Spoiler alert!
I mean, the whole idea of the story is that he steals the children and they mysteriously disappear. To have them be found in like a day and to have Maggie make up the ending as we know it just felt really anticlimactic to me.
Nonetheless, the drawings were beautiful, and some scenes were truly arresting, like the Piper playing the organ in the burning church.
Overall, it probably would have made sense to make the story longer and go into more depth.

This is an okay retelling. I liked the artwork, but the story didn't really stand out for me. They portrayed the Piper as an evil person; however, I didn't really believe that.

Just overall unpleasant to experience. The Pied Piper of Hamelin is already a pretty unpleasant fairytale but there were other gross, disturbing little stories throughout. It was definitely intentional but that didn't make it any more fun to read.

More earnestly romantic then I thought it'd be. I would've like more pages near the end to ruminate on what happened, and more stuff on how the MC's deafness affects her daily life outside of bullying but I still really liked it

What a fantastic graphic novel! One of the best I've read in a long time. The artwork was impressive, I absolutely loved it. It was my first The Pied Piper of Hamelin retelling and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
