This started so strong but became repetitive and dragged towards the end. Such fantastic writing though; I will definitely look into Hardy's work in the future.

This book was amazing for how it elicited such an emotional reaction from many of its readers. The plot wasn't predictable and it depicts many downfalls found in society. It offers much for discussions because it deals with many ideals and topics that are still controversial today. Even though the events of the book often angered or saddened me, I was pleased with the ultimate ending of the story. When I reached that ending, it felt to me as if it was unavoidable, unexpected and moving in an unforeseen way. I would highly recommend this to readers who don't want a typical novel.

God, Hardy, how could you do this at the end? I was so... mad, yes! Poor Tess, though I think she wasn't quite herself when she got rid of Alec at last. And Angel... I can't find the words to describe his idiocy. Somebody should have kicked some sense into that boy, he clearly deserved it. But all in all, this was a good novel.
