This book made me really sad. I had to read it for a class in my university but I ended up reading it as a book that I would have picked up to read by myself. I couldn't put it down and I spent many hours I should have been sleeping reading more about Jacobs' life.
My heart is filled with sadness every time I read about slavery. It's something so terrible. It's so good that some people were so nice to her understanding that human beings aren't objects.

I loved this book because it filled me with many feelings. I believe I will re-read it soon.

A beautifully written book about life in slavery and the means this woman was willing to go to avoid it. She is a wonderful storyteller and her writing is a powerful call to action

A truly important work in American Literature. This edition has detailed histories and removes the mask from America’s greatest historical villains, those who perpetuated chattel slavery whether they profited from it or not.

Wow. This was very difficult to read. Written in 1861. What a treasure that this account exists!
