Call me an uncultured heathen but this just did not do it for me. Maybe I am too much of a country bumpkin but I could not get interested in the characters, I was not terribly interested in the metropolitan life and I ended up thinking about cleaning out my cupboards. Do not worry - I found another book and my cupboards are still filthy!

Delightfully complicated and multilayered characters. Interesting exploration of the complexities of familial relationships and the intersectionalities of experience across race/ethnicity, gender, sexuality, religion, and age. In the end didn't feel quite as incisive or hard-hitting as it could have been, but still a solid and enjoyable work of modern literary fiction.

I really liked this book. It felt honest and bold. It unfolds slowly but having drawn you in to the characters really well
