What fun! I loved the descriptions of all the food and the different circumstances surrounding them. The way it all shadowed the relationship was lovely. I was teary eyed at the end. One of my favorite books this year.

The author often came off as being super arrogant and at times unlikable. A+ for the food writing.

This was probably my first food-related book after Kitchen Confidential, but that book felt like it was set in a totally different world than the one I lived in. This one felt slightly more accessible and I liked reading about the role food plays in other people's lives. Other than special food for special holidays, I've just never really thought about it much. I think between this type of books and the food in Denver and cooking more for myself, I really learned to embrace and love food and being so excited about food.

Exceedingly pretentious. I muscled through the book in order to be able to not DNF and give it the low rating it deserves. Gave half a star for a semi-interesting sub-plot after she moved in with her fiance. This book solidified my lack of desire to ever live in New York.

easy reading about food, recipes included. i didn't love the author's love of her self and her wonderful palate and cooking skills. also found it hard to believe that ALL of her friends are all super great cooks with enviable palates (doesn't seem likely.) was annoyed by the incessant name dropping (jeffrey steingarten is her FRIEND! she at (fill in name of trendy NYC restaurant!!) etc. lastly, Mr. latte's proposal was DISMAL.

Even though Amanda has an snooty voice, and I will never agree with her food snobbishness, it was still an interesting (and very quick) read.

entertaining and well-written. interesting to see how the language/rhetoric of talking about food/being a 'foodie' has changed since the writing of the book. looking forward to trying some of the recipes.

Many other people have written reviews that are perfect and snarky. I will just say: I didn't like her and I didn't think she was a solid writer. And if I'm going to read brain candy memoir with a side of mostly-inaccessible foodie, I need to like the writer.
