I’ll be honest: I read this because I liked the movie. I watched it recently, found out it was based on a comic, and then I read that comic. I’m not going to pretend this is better than the movie; they were both great in their own ways. The movie did a lot more for character development, and expanded on what it was like living in Barrow during the vampire attack. Also, Josh Hartnett played an excellent Eben. The comic on the other hand, made the vampires seem a lot less savage and much more intelligent, and the writing paired with the art style made for a quick and easy, yet spooky read. The art is…odd, but it fits the story really well, and really added to the grim ambiance that the writing created. When it comes down to it, both the movie and the comic have their strengths, and I highly recommend both things.

This could have been a lot better than it was. There were some interesting concepts here. But it was just bad. I pretty much hated it. The writing wasn't good. I didn't care about the characters or what was happening or anything. And if the writing in a graphic novel isn't good, the artwork better at least make up for it. But in this case it didn't at all. It was horrible. I get that the artist was going for a certain mood, but you couldn't tell what was going on at all. Usually with a graphic novel the art helps the story become clearer and fills in the blanks when the limited writing (which is the nature of a graphic novel) doesn't tell the whole story. This book just failed on all counts. Would not recommend.

Listened to the audio book and I wouldn't suggest it unless you've read the graphic novel before hand. The narrative did not describe the scene as well as it should. Relied to much on background noise to tell the story but I don't think it was as effective as they hoped it would be. I still love the story though, just read the graphic novel over the audio version.

I listened to this as an audiobook on Audible. This was an Audible original that I’m pretty sure I got for free. God I hope so cause I HATED IT. it was only an hour listen so I made it through but I basically hated everything about it. The “storyline”, the cringy “acting”, the sound effects. Just awful.

I love the premise of this story, and the format, but feel like it could have been better executed. The story is set inside the arctic circle, where the sun doesn't rise or set for 30 days — but we only really get to see what happens on day 1 or day 30, so we're left with a lot of gaps to fill. I'm interested to watch the film adaptation as the story clearly has a lot of potentential.
