I was excited to dig into Girl Without a Face after being intrigued by it’s description. I began the book and was quickly hooked, as anxious as Destiny to recover her memories and find out what happened.

The first twist of the book, which I don’t want to give away, I had figured out pretty early on, but the second twist was one I didn’t see coming. The storyline moves quickly and keeps you interested without dragging through all the mundane details. The flashbacks provide a great bit of foreshadowing to what comes later in the story.

The characters are well developed and easy to like. I know this review is shorter than most, but Girl Without a Face isn’t a long story, I finished in about three hours. It’s a great quick read with good characters and plot.

Girl Without A Face tells the story of seventeen-year-old Destiny who wakes up in hospital suffering from amnesia. With no past memories, Destiny has to rely on herself to regain her old life — a feat which is made a whole lot harder thanks to her mum who seems to want nothing more than for Destiny's memories to stay gone.

At first, I was pretty excited about this because it sounded so interesting but within the first few pages it quickly dawned on me that it wasn't going to be as good as I had anticipated. The general idea is alright, but unfortunately, with the way it's written it goes downhill fast. For instance, the way in which the characters talk and describe things is often done so in such a choppy way that it reads awkward...

Another let down was the romantic relationship between Destiny and Gabriel. First of all, she meets him at night, in the middle of a place she knows absolutely nothing about, and he offers her a ride after saying a bunch of creepy things... yet she still climbs into his car. Like, what? She genuinely just spent a month in the hospital die to a car crash and now she's getting in a vehicle with a stranger? Also, why the heck does she spill her guts to him about her lack of memories? Who tells a stranger something that personal? Don't even get me started on how by the time he's dropping her off outside her house, she's already feeling like she's falling for him. It's literally absurd!

Additional downfalls include: the lack of descriptions regarding characters and places, the alternating chapters between 'Awake Destiny' and 'Asleep Destiny' were more often than not utterly boring and the plot twist? Well it's entirely useless. You can guess how it ends simply by reading the first two chapters.

It's a shame because I really wanted to like this but regrettably, the writing was lacklustre, the characters had little to no spark and the plot itself was underdeveloped.

Destiny awakens in a hospital bed. She remembers the car accident that landed her there, but not much else about her life, even her name seems strange to her and her mother is unfamiliar as well. Once released from the hospital, she has no choice but to believe that the woman claiming to be her mother only has her best interest at heart, but does she? Destiny soon discovers that not everything is as it seems, and her loving mother may not even be who she says she it. With the help of her next door neighbor, Gabriel, Destiny sets out to unravel the truth from the lies. Media Sharif’s novel, Girl Without a Face has the potential to be a page-turner, but unfortunately falls short. The plot itself is appealing, but the lack of character development and chemistry between characters was disappointing. In addition to that the ending seems contrived and overdone.

[ T R I G G E R W A R N I N G S : bullying & abuse ]

I was not expecting to like this book. This story follows a girl who has survived a car accident. She doesn’t remember her name or any of her memories. It’s told through flashbacks of her seeing scenarios with a group of girls and the faces are blurred (hint: girl without a face) and it follows her through trying to put back the pieces of her life. She makes friends with the next door neighbor Gabriel and his grandfather Al.

THIS BOOK WAS ACTUALLY REALLY GOOD. idk why I had low expectations for it but it was super good. There was one part that I laughed at cause it was stupid but I enjoyed it. Oh , I didn’t enjoy the insta love but hey 🤷🏽‍♀️

The villain of this story ... Mildred SHE IS CRAZY! I knew from the start that she was a psychopath and it turned out right. This book felt to me like one of those Lifetime movies and then at the end something stupid happens... I won’t say what happened but a certain death ended sooo slow and I couldn’t help but laugh at it.

This book teaches how you should watch how you treat others. With the girl flashbacks you see the group of girls bullying people, teachers , just being rude and the main character learns about how to better treat people. I can’t say much about her or I will spoil the book but I’m glad at the end she learns her lesson.

First of all I want to thank Netgalley and Evernight Teen for providing me with this book in exchange for an honest review

Synopsis

Destiny awakes with amnesia. She'd been driving on a wet road, about to leave flowers at a memorial marker of a deceased classmate, when she almost met that same fate.

Her mother, Mildred, is beyond restrictive, and she doesn’t want Destiny to have her cellphone back. A nurse sneaks it into her room, but it’s useless without the passcode. After her hospital stay, her mother becomes physically abusive.

Destiny and the boy she’s developing feelings for decide to drive around to spark her memory. She’s positive she crashed near a memorial marker. When they find the place in question, and when Destiny remembers her phone’s passcode, nothing is as it seems—and Mildred is crazier than she first thought.

Ok, I thought it would be hard to finish this book, but in fact it has been much easier and faster to read than I expected, so I love that.

On the other hand talking about the plot,I think has been predictable, you can see what happens and how everything is going to trigger from the beginning, which is a shame because it has the potential to be a creepy and mysterious book with all the letters , but that takes away some points to it

Destiny is a good main character, but also is trusting and innocent so she makes some strange decisions during the book, her relationship with Gabriel began in the most creepy way I've ever read, but when the relationship begins to progress, I think becomes addictive, so I enjoyed their relationship at the end

I would recommend this book if you have never read mystery before and you want something quick to start, but I try to be honest, the idea is absolutely great, it has caught me but when it ends as you imagine it ends up being disappointing
