I'm sure this book belongs to a genre I'm just not familiar with, but I can't think of anything else I've ever read like this. Very strange, murky, all over the place, weirdly funny -- I almost didn't make it past page 15 but I'm glad I did. There are odd drawings and illustrations sprinkled throughout that (as far as I can tell) have nothing to do with the plot but make it all the more compelling.
