A bit slower than the others. As with the Mistborn series, Sanderson has expanded the story too far and it feels completely different than it did in the beginning.

By that I mean that the story started with her wanting to free humans on her planet but now she's telecommunicating with orbs that exist in a nether dimension lolserendipity_library's review against another edition

If I had a nickel for every silly sci-fi tetralogy that's actually about processing trauma and grief that I started reading this year I'd have two nickels but it's weird great that it happened twice.

What a fantastic book. I thought I would miss the characters we already know being present, but I could not have been happier with the exploration, the adventure, and the new friends Spensa found.

I did find the end of the book fairly confusing. Think I'll have to talk it over with my friend who has also read this. However I did enjoy this book overall.
I loved the progression of Spensa's character and the further adventures with Doomslug and M-Bot.
I enjoyed learning about the nowhere. And many of the characters were interesting in the way that it made you question assumptions - carrying on this theme from the 2nd book. Especially the resonants and the Varkax. Particularly the other broadsiders gave Spensa a different range of views which helped with her growth and also discovering M-Bot's feelings and new understandings of himself.
I hope that some of the characters return for the 4th book and all work together but maybe that is just wishful thinking.

I felt myself relating to both Spensa and M-Bot a lot through the book. M-Bot discovering his emotions is quite similar to me trying to understand how my brain works and then Spensa's decision about leaving or staying in the nowhere. It was very familiar having to choose between being happy or being loyal to what everyone else wants and the accompanying guilt.I enjoyed learning about the nowhere.
