this book explains everything that is wrong with me. these poems are why I am the way I am. Emily Dickinson made me a poet. I summoned her into my body when I was 10 years old and I have since mostly exorcised her restless spirit—but every now and again my eyes roll back into my head and I wake up 5 hours later covered in blood, with an em dash and a slant rhyme written in my document.

yes, it took me two years to read this behemoth. but in those two years i’ve learnt a lot about dickinson and myself. for one thing, i’ve learnt to love reading again and how to concentrate on the words on a page. i’ve also learnt how influentially evergreen her words are.
