A weird little book that starts out as Mrs Dalloway and then descends into Shirley Jackson/Patricia Highsmith territory. I would have liked for that descent to happen a little faster and cleaner as I found my attention wavering. I like a book that holds me to the page in a way where skimming the text would be unimaginable because how could I cope with missing a single word of such glorious prose! Alas, this was not that kind of book or that kind of prose (or at least it wasn’t for me).

Brief, twisted little book. Exactly the right length— I didn’t want to spend a second longer in Mrs. March’s head.

The blurb of the book is completely misleading. This isn’t a thriller but rather a psychological novel. The beginning started so slowly and the end of the book was so weird. I honestly have no idea what I just read.

2022 is the year i start writing reviews, to remind myself what i thought of the books that i read.

it was a pleasure to start the year with a book i didn’t want to put down. reading mrs. march felt like a treat, especially as the plot grew more and more twisted. and the ending! so good.

i loved the setting and characters—mrs. maisel vibes, hitchcock, larraín vibes, the academic side of the novel, the hysteria and suspense building.

one star knocked off as the writing style wasn’t quite to my personal preference. but i’ll definitely be picking up whatever virginia feito writes next.
