I was completely charmed by this story!! The storytelling was so good and felt so natural!

We are not perfect people, but taking part in and holding onto community can help us learn and grow and love, and this novel shares that message.

I definitely recommend the audiobook!!

I recommend the audiobook. Having a knowledge of Carribbean Spanish will make it more enjoyable but it's not required.

Strangely relatable experiences of childhood and relationships - as someone from a Slavic immigrant family. Cara has a distinct voice, and we can understand her thoughts and actions even while we see her flaws and wrongs. I wish her character the best.

I loved this book! The story was really touching and I really liked the way it was told, through session transcripts and job applications. The main character and all her community seemed so realistic and vivid and I finished the book wanting to hear more stories about them.

I love this book. I love the writing I love Cara's voice. Listening to it on audiobook was a fantastic choice; Rossmery Almote was great. There's some sound effects which i don't mind bc im a fictional podcast girlie as well. Cara was so familiar that she could have been a family friend. Her values (good, bad, and otherwise) were things I can clearly map onto the other women in my family. The writing is so so accurate to how my family speaks in English, little grammatical things that come from her translating to English in her brain. I think this could be a nice comforting reread for me for that reason. There's blog post potential here.

Creative format to tell a complex & touching story of Cara, a middle-aged immigrant woman reflecting on her life as she navigates the ever-increasing challenges the US various oppressive systems throw at her. This is an empathetic story, but doesn't hold back in painting the depths of Cara's flaws & failings, while also celebrating her strengths & triumphs. The definition of a lovable character.

Highly recommend, left me in tears by the end (the good kind!).
