This book strikes me as a wonderful introduction into research on and philosophy of forgiveness at the societal and interpersonal level. Although it is written by an academic, it is very accessible, and it makes me want to read more from Cherry and in this genre.  Takeaways include the importance of repair (imperfections and all), the purpose of remorse, regret, and guilt to create internal change even though difficult, how societal expectations of forgiveness often weigh disproportionately on people of color and women, and the breakdown of purposes of forgiveness and reconciliation.
