I got quite bored of this book towards the end and was tempted to skip some of the chapters as they were quite repetitive. Quite hit and miss in terms of the stories - some witness encounters actually scared me and made me think about whether some of the monsters could actually exist, while other stories were short and fleeting with no good evidence. Also no photographs at all which is disappointing (even when witnesses had apparently taken pictures of the sighting).

Absolutely fantastic, well-researched and appealing nonfiction on all thr creatures that may or may not exist beyond urban legends and our imagination. The author writes with interest and with grace to both believers and skeptics. A perfect nonfiction read.

An entertaining read detailing a large number of modern sightings and mythic figures from Native American folklore.

I think I expected more from this. I felt like it was kind of haphazard, and in the interests of hitting as many monsters as possible, the author sped right past detail, tension, and engaging storytelling. I wanted a little more drama from something such as this, where I don't think these things exactly exist in the flesh, so the magic is in the telling. And there's no magic in it.

I'd heard this book featured on several podcasts but must have misunderstood the premise – it's literally just a listing of creatures from myth and lore with a short description of each one. I'm sure someone out there will find it interesting, but it wasn't what I was expecting.
