The book was separated into two distinct parts that are separated by almost twenty years and two different POV characters. I found the book to be an interesting and compelling read but I did find the POV character of the second half to be horribly frustrating.

I found the plot to be predictable and was no longer invested in the character arcs and hwo the story would resolve. I read all I needed to to get the point.

While this was a good book, I don't think it is responsible of me to give it more than 3 stars. The main reason for this is that even though it uses the whole "past coming back to haunt them" trope, the way this is done feels somewhat irresponsible and exploitative. The past that comes back to haunt our three main characters is
murdering their abusive father, then being captured and brutally sexually assaulted. Eventually, one of the sisters and her niece end up being re-captured and assaulted by the same men in the same town, which ends with the sister being murdered by one of the men

All of this feels extremely like an irresponsible way to use this typical thriller trope. Their victimization history should not be used this way. It should not be framed as something that will catch up with them eventually. And to put them in a situation to make the same decisions and lead them back to that situation feels like a lazy way to engage with the idea of being re-victimized.

Overall, while I understand what the book is trying to do, I feel like it was done irresponsibly.

Those Girls is a complicated read.  The first chapter instantly hooks you in with atmospheric writing and interesting characters. I found myself devouring this book so fast and I would read big chunks in a matter of minutes. The characters are so relatable and charming, and you'll find yourself rooting for them all the way.

Because of how fast paced it is, there is little character development. But, the main point is the plot, characters, and the twists. Each girl in the novel is so different and lovely in their own way, which is why I couldn't hate any of them. I have to deduct a star for killing off my favorite character.

4/5 B-

This book was good. I was told it was dark, which for some it is but I almost wanted more. It got especially good in the second half. Great story but needed a bit more, I’m guess I was given higher expectations.

4 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Honestly, I went into this book without any high expectations. I saw a reading vlog Jacquline did on her channel on reading a Chevy Stevens book and it happened to be this one. She gave it a high rating and I figured I’d give it a go.
This book is so fast paced, things happening straight from the beginning. I will say massive TRIGGER warnings though ⛔️ If that is something you’re worried about I’d look into those first. There’s quite a few.
Something I didn’t quite like at the beginning was how odd the time frame was. It could be days in a few pages, weeks, months and then BAM years went by. By the end of the book I was used to the timing and it didn’t bother e as much anymore.
Throughout this book I kept feeling like I wasn’t going to give it a high rating. It felt more like a lifetime movie to me. But man, by the end, you’re so close to the characters I just had to give this a 4 stars.
A story of three sisters, trauma, and how they’ve overcome their nightmares together.
