I love the way these are written. The chapters are short and they keep you hooked...just one more chapter...just one more chapter...crap...I'm late for work! :-)

Holly Barker is slipping. I enjoyed the first two in this series. The plot twists were just enough that I couldn't piece it all together and I really liked Holly. In this offering, though, Woods has really dropped the ball. About 2 pages after Shine's shot at, anyone with half a brain is suspicious of him. And after about the 12th time someone questions what Barker's working on that could cause someone to bug her house and she neglects to mention the Shine shooting, even the densest reader would figure out. There's also the fact that in the beginning, Barker knows she's been bugged and to watch what she says. But after the guy who did it is found dead, she forgets all about that and blabs the whole thing, including her new BF's real job, blowing his cover. She conveniently forgets that they'd already deduced that a second bug was placed and that the guy doing it was undoubtedly working for someone else. What a dumbass. I was happy to finally see Crisp get what was coming to him. I found it a tad too convenient that Grant's suddenly placed in Crisp's old position. I did enjoy reading this, but I was yelling at Holly in my head the entire time. Here's hoping the next one's better.

Third book into Holly Barker series and it keeps getting better. Audio book is wonderful, I love both readers.

I always enjoy these books, but one of the plot points I just didn’t understand. He was recycling one of the settings from the first book, and I wasn’t totally sure why. Maybe I missed something while reading.

I normally don’t get too lathered up about whether I dip into a series in the middle, near the end or wherever. But in the case of this series, I encourage you to start at the top. That’s particularly important with this book, since it heavily references things that happened in book one.

Holly Barker is still the police chief in Orchid beach, Florida, and a new investor has come to town to look at some properties that were abandoned as a result of Holly’s work in book one to bring down the bad guys. When folks in her community start dying inexplicably as a result of violence done to them, Holly reaches out to the FBI for help in resolving the murders. I admit to being a bit startled by the book’s ultimate solution, and I find myself looking forward to the final two books in the series.

I'm slightly disappointed in Holly's police work in this one. She did something that felt sloppy and not at all something like an officer with her experience should have.
