I don't have a lot to say about this book. I enjoyed it and I liked learning where J.K. Rowling found inspiration for the series.
I think that it's a nice side book if you're reading the Harry Potter series or if you read it and miss it, but don't want to commit to a re-read.

Simple and readable for children. A good survey of the history of magic, with enjoyable ties into Harry Potter and the Hogwarts universe. Good illustrations.

I think this is the predecessor to what eventually became the History of Magic exhibition at the British Library and the New York Historical Society. It's much more disjointed than the final version though, and definitely aimed at a younger audience. The bits of Harry Potter that are thrown in seem quite random and it didn't seem like it knew what it wanted to be (historical information about how magic has been seen throughout human history or Harry Potter tid bits). In general, I recommend the later books that accompanied the exhibition over this set.
