The longer this book sat with me, the more I enjoyed it. I’m giving it a 3.5 out of 5! The character’s backstories are fascinating and pairing it up with the current circumstances in the book makes for a great read! This is a book you should snuggle up with on a cold winter night and be thankful that you’re inside!

When Natalie gets an email about her sister who is currently attending a wellness retreat. In the email, the sender mentions that they know a secret she’s been keeping from her sister and if she doesn’t come, the sender will tell her.
Natalie drops everything to go up to Maine to visit her sister. When she gets to the retreat, Wisewood, she finds the practices very odd. All the staff members have shaved heads, and technology, mirrors, and touching are not allowed.
Kit, Natalie’s sister, is obsessed with Wisewood. During the last 6 and half months, she has grown fearless and has become a different person. She loves Teacher, Rebecca, more than anyone else and will stand by her teachings at whatever cost.
Natalie struggles to help her sister see sense and get off this island before it’s too late.
I love a good cultish book! This one was absolutely wild and I had no idea where it was going. I really liked the multiple perspectives and thought they added depth to the story. My favorite parts were the flashbacks to the past as they were so intriguing and insane to read about. The details about Wisewood were so well thought out and you can really tell that the author did her research.

2 1/2 ⭐️This book was so slow and confusing as to who was doing what. I read it, I listened to it and I still can’t get it straight in my mind. Ugg

This book was nothing like I expected. It takes a long while to get started and build characters. But the last half of the book is interesting, twisty and much faster. 3.5 rounded down for a very slow start.

I really enjoyed this book, and the dark twistiness of the cult thriller vibe was engaging. I loved the interactions between all of the sister relationships
While I felt some of the loose ends were left loose for too long/still not tied up (Natalie's big secret, who the staff members are, why Kit is so well primed to become the new leader), it was truly entertaining. I also love Wrobel's writing style and cliffhangers, and her descriptions of nature make me feel like I'm there

I would have enjoyed this book more had I known exactly who the narrators were. I spent half the book confused.
