When we meet Gaby while she is working at her family's store we find out she has always crushed on Landon - a minor league hockey player that has come into her store weekly since he was a baby. When he helps her in a difficult situation they become closer. I loved watching Gaby and Landon become closer while overcoming many obstacles thrown into their path. Power Play had the perfect ending for my heart!! Can't wait for book number three!

I’m having a bit of a hard time reviewing this book. I really, really liked book 1. I don’t remember if the writing style was similar in that book to this book but I really had a hard time reading this one. The story didn’t flow very well…I was honestly confused a few times trying to figure out what I missed. The dialog was a bit stilted. I didn’t really care for most of the characters…Landon felt like 2 different people, sweet one minute, dirty the next; I don’t even know what to think about Gaby, she also was ok at times but others I just wanted to slap her; Gaby’s parents were pretty awful through most of it; Luke was decent and I’m hoping we get a story about him; Joey was really unlikeable and then at the end he just became a good guy.

This book had potential. I think if the love story between Landon and Gaby was more developed and flowed better, I would have liked it more. There were moments where Landon was an amazing love interest and Gaby was entertaining, but outside of that I didn’t care much for this one.

I read Delayed Penalty and really enjoyed it, so I knew I would want to read Power Play. This is the story of Gabriella and Landon. She is hoping to take over the store that her family owns one day. Landon is a hockey player hoping to make it to the NHL. They've known each other since they were kids, but only recently when her father has a heart attack and Landon is there to help, does he finally admit his feelings. Gaby is shocked. She's had a crush on him for years, but she never thought he felt anything for her. They start to spend time together and realize they have more in common than they thought. They both have issues with their families and deep dark secrets they feel comfortable sharing. There's a little angst, and a serious subject matter. But, overall, it's a sweet, sexy, funny book.

"I don’t want to make decisions for you or hinder your dreams. I want to hold your hand and stand by your side. We fit together. We're separate people, but we're still a team. We're like fucking superheroes together."

This was a well written story with good characters. It wasn't exactly what I was expecting when I read the blurb but not in a bad way. The blurb makes it sound like most of their problems come from Landon playing professional hockey but that's not the case. Most of their problems come from issues with themselves. Disclaimer: This story does deal with rape that happened in the past for Gaby. I wanted to give a heads up in case this is a hot button for a reader.
Gaby and Landon have known each other pretty much their whole lives. They were never very close but Landon and his family have shopped at Gaby's family's grocery store every week and so they would see each other and interact with each other but it was never on a super deep level, even though they were both drawn to the other. Gaby is a shy, introvert (even before the rape) and so she doesn't really show that she is interested because she doesn't think he could ever be interested in her like that. Gaby's father has a heart attack in the store while Landon is there and this is the catalyst that starts to bring them together on a deeper level. The fact that they have feelings for each other comes out. Gaby has a very hard time believing that Landon truly has feelings for her. It was interesting to me how their relationship started. It took them a while and they kinda went back and forth almost because Gaby didn't truly believe that he had feelings for her and they had things to talk about that would get started and then interrupted for different things, which is totally life. Life happened in this story. Instead of talking about their feelings for each other at the beginning of their relationship they ended up talking about what had happened that day and why one was upset. It felt real to me and I liked it.
Gaby embarrasses easily and Landon likes to make her blush so it was a little hard sometimes if he was just saying it to make her blush or if that's what he really wanted to do then. I loved how they listened to the cues from the other and how Landon is never really super pushy. They listen to each other and give each other the support and push that they need. The rape and the aftermath of it don't seem to be in play as much as you would expect at first, until Landon and Gaby get closer and get more physical. I loved how Landon handled it. The sex is not very explicit when it comes down to it and is not overly frequent within the story line. I liked the interactions between the characters and how they built each other up. There is enough going on in this story to draw you in and hold your attention the entire time. I really enjoyed it and love to read more in this series and by this author.
I would recommend this story because it is very well done, just know that rape is discussed in this story and it is with the main character.

Eh

I am not rally too sure what was so blah about this story, the writing was fine, but I just had the hardest time getting pulled into the story. Well, I also had a hard time with the whole gabby backs down to her papa over everything. I don't know, I just found her character to be so irritating I guess.

I read the first Pilots Hockey novel, Delayed Penalty, when it first released last year. I gave it a 3.5 and knew I wanted to read the next book. While it had some continuity issues for me I still enjoyed the men of the Pilots Hockey team and wanted to know more. Power Play, the second book in the series, took me by surprise. I went into this book thinking it would be fairly similar to Delayed Penalty, and boy was I wrong. Not only is it a cute love story, but the story line flows perfectly and I found myself liking the characters quite a bit. While readers of Delayed Penalty may have enjoyed the constant go-go-go feel and drama, Power Play is similar to a friends to lovers story. Tensions are high among the family, similar to the last book, but this time the hockey player is a little less chauvinistic, definitely more boy next door.

Gabriella, Gabi as she's known by, is a character I related to in more ways than one. I understand having siblings, being treated differently as a girl, and having hard life lessons learned in terrifying ways. She's a strong characters, she's bright, and I liked reading her POV. She was fun and I really liked her spunk, especially her flirty banter with her hockey crush, Landon. Speaking of Landon, he can be my book boyfriend if he wants to. Described as hot and family oriented, Gabi sees a different side of Landon he never shares, on or off the ice. He's got some self esteem issues and he and Gabi work them out on eachother. Did I say on? I meant with. They had known each other since childhood, but only found friendship in the midst of a traumatic event. I liked the speed of the relationship, though I would normally complain about it. In this length of novel it just worked, moving from family friends and acquaintances, to dating, to finally lovers. Their relationship was fun, unique, and proved to be really positive for both of them as individuals. While there is less hockey in this book, it's still mentioned often. I definitely liked the introduction of the world of characters in Detroit that the hockey players interact with, because it brought a lot of depth to the Pilots Hockey team. This book is true to reality, written very well, and was an enjoyable fast read. I absolutely recommend the Pilots Hockey series to fellow readers and if you pick up Power Play first, don't worry about it, because it's a standalone!

Minor league hockey player Landon Taylor has had a crush on Gabriella Bertucci since the day he met her. Gabriella has secretly been crushing on Landon, but she doesn't realize Landon is ready to make his move and Gabriella is the target. Gabriella works in her families produce business, she is often overlooked by all that she does though and as Landon becomes a bigger part in her life she begins to believe in her ideas more. Landon though is struggling with wanting to be called up and taking the next step in his Hockey career, Gabriella offers him an insight he needs. Although they are new, Landon doesn't know everything about Gabriella and will he accept everything about her once he finds out?

This is a fantastic series. I liked Landon, he knows who he wants in his life and I thought his courtship of Gabriella was really sweet. Gabriella is a wonderful character, she is dealing with a hard issue and I was overwhelmed by how courageous she was. Excellent series, one to pick up if you have not already.

Super cute! I really enjoyed Gaby and Landon! They are YOUNG (19 and 21ish) so there is a bit of that overly dramatic NA stuff. However, overall, I thought it was a great read! Full review will be on The Book Disciple
