This was my first contemporary (non-romcom) romance and it was quite good. Again this is not my genre but Kennedy Ryan doesn’t try to force tropes down your throat which I loved. The genre is not the “thing”, the story is the thing. Is it a great story? No, not really. It’s pretty familiar territory here, but it is well considered and so it feels authentic. Midway through I was starting to find some of it teetering on dull because there isn’t a ton of conflict beyond the “will they or won’t they” but Ryan ramps things up in the last third and by then she’s gotten her emotional hooks in but good. This was a very solid read.
