This had a lot of interesting ideas, but Dany and I found it to be slightly lacking.

Cool worldbuilding. The prose left something to be desired, but the end had me intrigued as to what follows.

I love so much of what this is trying and how it's doing it. Especially the the little details, the security making her take off her jewelry, the odd tech, the very classic star trek plotting, and how Nnedi plays around with identity and first generation college stories is very intriguing. However, I did not find the way the story is structured convincing. It flips from murder and racial antipathy to UN esque summit so fast that I'm thinking of suing for whiplash. That being said, I am really looking forward to reading her adult fiction, and kids will love this.

Binti is a short, fun sci-fi novella. In the note so distant future, a girl named Binti decides to leave earth and join the Oomza Uni (a university). Her tribe does not leave earth. Rather, they stay at home and focus on inward knowledge. Things quickly change when an alien species hijacks her ship.

This story was interesting, but it just felt like a half-story. A girl leaves her planet, her path is interrupted by aliens, and then she arrives. Simple. Not much really happens. However, I do like the world-building and the mud macguffin (it somewhat reminded me of spice in the Dune series). Since this is such a short read, I will likely read the other books in the series.

Honestly, this is something truly unique and I appreciate that. Never read something like this. I looooved Binti. I really liked her voice. I love the world. (or should I say the universe eheheheheh). Also didn't expect what happened at all.

This was such a nice surprise.
