This book was recommended to me by the bookseller of the bookshop I volunteer at occasionally after some back and forth about the types of sci fi I enjoy. She suggested some things in the store & when I was less than excited about them, she went upstairs to her apartment and brought me this from her personal collection.

It is really like nothing I've ever read before. It took me a while to get into and there are some fantasy-esque elements that I generally don't enjoy, but the world building was really interesting and towards the end I couldn't put it down.

I really appreciated the non-violence of the citizens of Shora and the interesting way their lived together with nature, which was in stark contrast to the people trying to colonize them. Also, the differing views among the two cultures was fascinating.

I have no idea who I would recommend this to. It was difficult to get through at times, and the language of the citizens of Shora tripped me up & I occasionally found myself rolling my eyes. But I do feel like this book opened up a new genre for me that I'd be willing to explore (fish-like people on another planet?) , and I think it will stay with me for a long time.
