This is one of those "must reads". There is no excusing the reading of this book since it is only 139 pages. The lessons learned are invaluable and anyone who cares about their own nation should take the time to see the wisdom contained inside this novella. What is frightening to me is it makes me wonder who really won the cold war.

I can see why it's a classic--and it is a good fable. But it's not the best book out there. I'm not the biggest fan of Orwell's writing style, but the story he tells is timeless. It's not just about the USSR, but it's about Trump, the media, and other powers that seek to control common people.

The Seven Commandments
1. Whatever goes upon two legs is an enemy.
2. Whatever goes upon four legs, or has wings, is a friend.
3. No animal shall wear clothes.
4. No animal shall sleep in a bed (with sheets).
5. No animal shall drink alcohol.
6. No animal shall kill any other animal (without a reason).
7. All animals are equal (but some animals are more equal than others).

"FOUR LEGS GOOD, TWO LEGS BAD!" ---> "FOUR LEGS GOOD, TWO LEGS BETTER!"

i actually really enjoyed the book? i'd been tiptoeing around it ever since we watched parts of the movie at some point in english class and i can still recall how upset i was how snowball was treated back then and how much i hated napoleon. ofc, i didn't realize back then that it was a political statement and the whole thing was about the udssr.
this time, i had a much more critical approach to it simply because i knew it wasn't just a story but rather a critic of russian communism. usually, i'm not the person who goes for political books but as this is a classic and i want to read less trash, i gave it a try. and tbh i'm glad i did? i absolutely adored the writing style in this book - if i remember correctly, i freaking hated 1984 or maybe i'm mixing it up with brave new world - and got quite emotionally invested despite knowing that the characters were simply symbols for various archetypes of people. it made me so freaking mad how the animals were too stupid to see that they were simply being manipulated and how they bought everything their authority figures told them. which i guess is the point of the book, but at the same time, i didn't expect it to catch me like that.
so if you wanna start reading more classics, i can definitely recommend starting with this one as it's a quick and easy read that'll get you thinking while still getting you emotionally involved with the book.

"All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others" pretty sums up the whole book. Funny how history repeats itself.
