kids are creepy! no happy ending to be found in this one, but it was so captivating. the multiple points of view and the shift from past to present was very well done. the demon known as mr. scratch has come back to take jacks daughter, and boy does he.

Overall, it was ok.

I listened to the audiobook. This story has, demons, possessions, kids, a dysfunctional family, and a marriage that for an inexistent reason still exists. The story overall was ok, creepy thanks to the kids, yes, just the kids. Not even the demon made it scary or disturbing.

The plot itself had lagunes, some stuff wasn't explained well enough by the end of the book. The characters had their build-up as the plot progressed, but somehow the story still felt average.

3.5 ⭐️ This book really had some suspenseful moments, but they fizzled out leaving me wanting more. There were a few times in the book where I felt uneasy and was thinking, "Here it is, that edge of your seat moment that only King can get me to", but then the moment was lost. I will give credit to the overall theme and suspenseful moments, I just wanted that momentum to continue.

Additionally, this is the second book by Ahlborn where there is animal abuse; not a fan of that by any means, which is making it less likely that I'll be reading any more novels by this author since this appears to be a theme in her writing.

I've been excited to read an Ania Ahlborn book because I've heard such good things, but this was.... not good. The characters were flat; the plot revolved around a lack of communication that was caused by the devil, but still was annoying as shit; there was no real tension; the writing was bland; and then everyone died off-screen and it was over.

Just a fucking silly waste of a book. At least authors like Kristopher Triana make me feel something other than bored when I hate parts of their books because they have brilliant parts, but this was the book equivalent of a made-for-TV formulaic demon possession horror movie, except it wasted fourish hours of my time and not 90 minutes.

Hell, this book made me go back and up the star-rating for a Triana novel, because _this_ is a bad book. Triana just has lazy characterization.

If generational trauma was a couple of thousand year old demon that follows the bloodline until the very end.

The book had a really good pace, i was never bored and liked to keep going. The moments were the author described the typical „haunted house“ scenes did scare me and thats what i want from a horror book. There wasn‘t a lot of gore but when, it wasn‘t that disturbing. The ending though felt a little bit rushed and i wished there would have been a little bit more explaining who or what the evil is. Anyway, was a little surprised that it was a non-happy ending, all the time i thought at least the children would survive.

  1. Seed-Ania Ahlborn- 4.75 ⭐️- Whoa! WTH?! DARK, gruesome, gripping, unsettling, couldn’t put it down, so bad/so good, not sure how I feel but also loved it… What is fate?, what is evil? Where is salvation? So different than what I usually read.  Did I mention, whoa? 😳
