I was thoroughly entertained by this book. It was everything I love about horror movie tropes in a murder-thriller book. The chapters are short, and the plot twists are interesting, which kept me turning the pages. I am also thrilled about the ending, as it's exactly what I was hoping to see.

If you want to have no clue what is happening in this mystery book up until the last 50 pages then this is for you. It also takes forever to find out anything about Elin and what her deal is. I get that it is a mystery/ suspense kind of book but every element of it doesn’t have to be a mystery.

Really interesting murder mystery. I didn’t know the bad guy until it was revealed and honestly hadn’t even considered the culprit for that role. I couldn’t put this one down — stayed up til the wee hours reading.

I thought this was such an exciting premise and idea. Although it did make me want to keep reading,  I didn’t really feel like it had any pay off and felt like a let down.  There were really no big reveals to me, which is what I enjoy about thriller/mysteries. I thought it was all pretty predictable. In terms of the writing, the author created a good atmosphere, but I had a hard time getting over her repetitive words and phrases (technical jackets, thinking something and then it JUST slipping away, etc.) This unfortunately didn’t meet the potential I thought it had.

I enjoyed this one! I just personally found Elin's jumping between basically opposite conclusions every other chapter a little exhausting and for me it made it hard to like her but! I liked the ending, though it did feel a little rushed

I was really excited about this read -- creepy isolated hotel in the mountains, estranged siblings with traumatized pasts, a detective juggling her current career and the past she can't seem to get away from -- it sounds like it's right up my alley. And I did enjoy it: the pacing was good, the mystery keeps you guessing with all its twists and turns, and the hotel was DEFINITELY CREEPY (which I loved). However, I did feel that the wrap-up was a tad underwhelming. Also, and this is just me, Elin's boyfriend rubbed me wrong (perhaps because some of his condescension was too familiar for comfort, and honestly I just think she'd probably be better off without him).
That being said the epilogue did grip my interest and I am certainly excited to see what comes next for Detective Elin Warner!
