I was interested in this book because I recently saw a trailer for the film adaptation that is coming out. The story intrigued me: How was this woman pregnant with her boyfriend's baby 5 years after his death? It was strange, but I truthfully wanted to know (see what I did there?? Eh, Eh???) So I sought out this book in the hopes of finding the answer. I will start out by saying that I did enjoy the book, although the ending was a bit lackluster. It was a quick read, finished the book in about a week and a half (hey, I have a life!), and I did feel an initial pull to keep on reading even though my lunch break ended 10mins ago.

The story had a very interesting premise, leading you to believe there is some sort of supernatural aspect. It was definitely enough to draw me in and give it a try, and keep me wanting to know what happens next.

I appreciated the different sides of grief being represented within the characters. You feel for them and see how much of a tremendous toll the death of Ronnie. Charlene lets herself go, and became more difficult to deal with. Richard became more distant to the point that he found solace with another woman, to whom he eventually married (Not to mention that whole thing with Melissa). Philip puts himself more into his shell until he eventually had to run away to NY. And Melissa was still holding on to Ronnie and the events of prom night. She even had the dress she was wearing splattered in blood (Not to mention the whole thing with Richard). However, I will definitely say there was some difficulties in feeling sorry for this group. The characters are just not really likable, even for a group of people in grieving.

I felt like the author build us up for this awesome climax, only for such a lackluster ending. It was almost like there would be a follow up, but wasn't. In a forethought, we see Melissa deciding to make changes to her life to give her son the kind of upbringing she wanted, as well as reunite with her mother. We also see the Chase's reunite as a family once Philip was found alive. Despite all that, I still felt a wanting, like my heart wanted more. Maybe a "Where Are They Now" epilogue. Did Bill go to jail for all his wrong doing? What happened to Gail? and Palia? I kept turning the last page back and forth, just to see if I missed anything. What I was missing was a more satisfying ending.
