Fun easy alien read. There's a ton of action and a very complex dystopian world which felt a bit under-explained to me. The romance was good, but the world-plot was glossed over.

It could use some more work. There are a few typos, and the plot has a bunch of holes. The writing isn't anything extraordinary. And the smut is meh.

Loved it

Absolutely loved this book and the characters. I found this plot really good with romance, steam, fluff and a little action. A well written alien book.

This started out really good to me. I liked the main characters, I was getting some chuckles out of it, and it was quite enjoyable. And then it just sort of wasn't. The set up here was good. Bad aliens that look like insects show up and begin attacking the Earth. Good aliens that are red and have tusks show up to save the day. For a price. A bride price. Without the consent of the people, the governments have made an alliance with them to save the planet, and in exchange they will allow the warriors to claim women who they think are their mates as long as they test high enough in compatibility. Okay, cool.

Penny is a college student living with her Aunt who just happened to be on the wrong side of the river when the attacks started. Since then she has managed to survive on her own without being caught by either side. For some stupid reason she thinks her aunt would never find her if she left the house. But winter is coming. Yeah, I said it. And it's coming fast. A blizzard is on it's way and Penny wanted to charge some battery packs before it hits. Or try to cross the bridge to safety, but that won't happen as long as the big red alien keeps pacing it.

Kol scented his mate the moment that he touched down on the planet and he's been trying to find her. He has gotten close, but still has yet to catch sight of her. When he finally sees her he ends up having to fight off an attack while trying to keep their attention off of Penny. He did a good job too until he falls into the river.

The water is freezing, but Penny isn't about to leave him to die so she wades in to pull him out. He's heavy, and he's ugly. Her own words. With a lot of effort she manages to get him to her shelter where she can try to help him. She wakes the next day to him poking her, which is not exactly the best way to wake up. Kol thought that he could control himself around his mate, but he's finding it much harder than he anticipated. It's funny when they can't communicate (he can understand her, but she can't him) until he fixes a piece of his gear to work as a translator. He tells her that she's his and despite the way her body reacts to him, she strongly denies it. They soon come to the understanding that he will not do anything to her unless she asks...no matter how hard it is on him. Making it worse is that the blizzard has hit, forcing the two of them to stay in a small, cold place together with no escape. That is until a tree falls on the house and they have to move or risk being buried. And now all of a sudden at the new place, Penny realizes that she loves the big ugly alien. Really? So yeah. They have fun making their own heat until Penny is taken by the bad aliens and Kol has to save her. The end was kind of cheesy but at that point I wasn't expecting too much anyway.

I don't think I will be reading any more of this series.
