Reallllyyy scary/suspenseful book for me - very edge of your seat, waiting for things to come and get you. I actually would not want to pick it up because of the creep factor, but kept reading anyways because I really liked the protagonist and the pacing and wanted to find out what happened (during flashbacks)/happens (in present time). Great quick read, but definitely spooky. Good for finishing Halloween night!

This is now one of my favorites of this year. I thoroughly loved this book. It's extremely suspenseful, unpredictable, and very endearing. I loved the main character; her struggles with both herself and nature and believable and terrifying. I found myself holding my breath many times. I was always on edge, wondering what was coming next. I was in a bit of a reading slump until this and read it in a day because I couldn't go to bed until I knew how it ended.
A word of caution!! You WILL be very tempted to glance over a page, seeing a word or two that shock you, but DO NOT! It's as if we have to be the character, caution, slow down, take it what's before you first, then it will make sense. SLOW DOWN! Take in the words and digest them properly before moving on. It was a task not to look ahead, but every time I found myself doing just that, I got confused.
MINOR SPOILER ALERT!!
The ending is wonderful and, for a moment (JUST A BRIEF TWO SENTENCE MOMENT) for me nothing was as it seemed...and I think it's done on purpose because, to the character, Is it too good to be true? It does make you question everyone's sanity around her, including her sometimes. I can only hope that, with Netflix grabbing this up, they do it justice!

*read again and loved it much more this time*
This was my second attempt at reading this. The first time, I just couldn't get onto it. This time, I really enjoyed it but...um where is the ending? I mean all that for that?! There is no end...nothing was resolved...nothing was explained....there needs to be more because all that for that is just....enough to make someone go crazy.

Very good psychological, (unseen) creature, and body horror. Well written pregnant female protagonist, something I love to see, but I feel male writers often miss the mark on. Hopeful the sequel has more of the creatures and world exploration.

Maybe like 4.5 stars. It felt wrapped up a bit too nicely but oh damn was it scary.

Decided to jump into this book after seeing the movie a few days ago. Honestly I liked them both on different ways, but was more pleased with the book. It just had a level of intensity in certain parts (that weren’t in the movie) that I thought really drove the pace. It only took a couple days to read because of how it hooks you. My only complaint was that the final act could have been a little more descriptive. It’s kind of vague about what happens during the “final showdown” but I supposed that wasn’t what we were supposed to focus on. Great read. Totally recommend for horror/thriller lovers.
