It is about a boy named Aiden and a girl named Meg Falconer. They are their parents' only hope. The Falconers are facing life in prison- unless Aiden and Meg can follow a trail of clues to prove their innocence. The problem? They're trapped in a juvenile detention center. Until they escape one night - and find themselves on the run, both from the authorities and from a sinister attacker who has his own reason to stop them. The Falconers must use their wits to make it across the country-with plenty of tests along the way.

It was a good book. A very easy read though. I read it in one day. But I am looking forward to the rest of the books.

This was one of the most beloved books of my childhood. I first read it when I was in fifth grade, and I'm rereading the series now as an adult, because why not revisit old favorites? I mean, unless your old favorite was written by a bigot who uses their massive platform to spread their horrible views – in that case, it's probably better to leave it in the past and move on. Anyway, "On the Run" is every bit as fun as I remember, although not everything has aged well, not least of which being Korman's rather stereotypical depiction of a Latino juvenile delinquent.
I have to say, it's a wonder how a story about two children trying to dodge the United States' deeply flawed justice system while trying to prove their parents' innocence after they'd been arrested for domestic terrorism while also escaping the clutches of a murderer with no qualms about killing children managed to qualify as a kid-friendly in the 2000s. These kids go through a lot; it's actually pretty nerve-wracking. I've no doubt that if Netflix decided to adapt the series as a gritty teen drama aimed at a slightly older audience, it'd be a massive hit. I may or may not have a dream cast already outlined. Netflix, if you're reading this, hit me up, I've got plenty of ideas.
