That was awesome!!!!
If you like crime novels this is a must read. This is my first, but definitely not my last Caz Frear book.
A real page turner that kept me guessing.

Read Caz Frear’s first book (Sweet Little Lies) in 2018 and freaking adored it. The main character, Cat Kinsella, is witty and down-to-earth. She feels like a real person not a character.

I really liked the follow up novel. Even though it is a murder mystery, I genuinely laughed out loud several times, which is one of the reasons I liked the first one. Nothing slapsticky or unseemly for a murder mystery. More aside comments from characters, Kinsella in particular.

The mystery was gripping but not as much as the first one. To be fair, I only vaguely remember the plot of the 1st book but I remember wanting to simultaneously know the ending and not wanting the book to end. I didn’t have that with this book. I would still recommend it but you definitely have to read the first one since there are important plot points relating to Kinsella’s life.

This was great, lots of interesting turns in the investigation and the characters were done so well. Not a ton of description but you learned a lot about them in a very natural way.

I like the relationships among the detectives plus the small twists in the investigations make it worth it.
I look forward to book three.

Wow - what a tense mystery! Honestly couldn't put it down. I don't tend to read crime novels that often unless they have some sort of unique factor, but this was written extremely well. The character of Cat is so well explained and consistent throughout the book, I really feel like I know and like her as a human. I didn't realise this was the second in the series, but it read really well as a standalone mystery. Obviously aside from the cliffhanger ending! Honestly if I ever needed my innocence proving, Cat is who I'd go to. I couldn't put this book down. It was twisty enough without being realistic which I really like - some crime novels just choose the most wildly unlikely candidate as the killer to up the shock factor but I didn't feel like that happened here. It was logical without being obvious, and backed up by thoughtful and clever details. Thoroughly recommend this book to anyone who wants a good female police officer led series. More like this, please!

So disappointed by this one! I really enjoyed the mystery in the first book of this series Sweet Little Lies. I also loved Cat in the first but felt like she had no character growth in this one. I honestly felt bored. Not sure I will pick up the 3rd in this series which comes out Dec 1st 2020.

Second in a series that is quickly becoming a favorite! I love Cat’s (the main character) personality, and the writing is SO GOOD. The first in the series was focused mainly on Cat’s family; this one broadens the net a bit, but keeps some of the storyline from the first. Really good crime read.

RATING: 3.5 STARS
2019; Harper/HarperCollins

I was super excited to read Stone Cold Heart, but this one fell a bit flat for me. I enjoyed reading more about Cat and her workmates, her new relationship and family. It was the mystery that didn't work for me. I found it a bit confusing with all the characters involved. They seemed to sort of be like one another, and were hard to tell apart. I like Frear's writing so I am down for more Cat Kinsella books!
