I bought this book pre-owned before I learned of the controversy surrounding the author, and I'm glad I read it, but I'm also glad I'm not supporting the writer with my purchase.

The book itself is (for the most part) heartbreaking and delightful in equal measure - a coming-of-age underdog story with a protagonist you want to root for. The bits about teenage hormones and girls though read a bit icky, considering the allegations.

I've never read a book so weirdly hilarious and sad at the same time. I absolutely loved Arnold, and I definitely appreciated the comedic way he talked about cultural appropriation, racism, bullying, grief, abuse, community, family, and high school. Definitely a winner for my AYA lit class!

This story was more about friendship than anything else. I'd say this book is for pre-teens if there weren't those few mentions of "boners." But yah, decent book... Can't say I can relate to it.

I adored this book. Funny, sad, moving and quirky - I loved the writing, the characters, the drawings. A young-adult book that is every bit as intelligent as an adult novel.
