Queen Karin Slaughter does it again! I love this series so much I’m going to be sad when it’s over but thankful I have the Will Trent books to read!

This book was so good definitely one of my favorites of the first 4 books in this series! I loved the dual timeline and the explaining of the characters we all know and love in Grant County. It really showed why they are the way they are and where they came from. Looking forward to continuing this series!

No one can write crime fiction quite like Karin Slaughter!!

Indelible - Grant county series No. 4 - by Karin Slaughter.

This is a good place to start if you don't start at the beginning of the series. (I don't know why you wouldn't want to read them all in order though, they are all so fab!) It is kind of the origin story for Sara and Jeffrey and tells of the very early part of their relationship and how that has shaped the dynamic of their future relationship. Once you've read this, you can understand more about the present day Sara and Jeffrey.

I mention a lot in my KS reviews, how I am slightly more team Jeffrey than team Will. Which I think if you are a KS fan you will understand - maybe not agree with, but hey we can't all agree. I just love him and Sara together and this book just cements my view even more. We get to see a grittier side to Jeffrey's character and although I don't like a lot of what he does in Indelible, it shapes his character and makes me appreciate him more.

There are three different story lines here - one in the present where the station in Grant has been attacked and Sara and Jeffrey have been taken hostage along with some other people. One in the past where Jeffrey's best friend has been accused of shooting an intruder. And one even further in the past, where a girl disappeared and was never seen again.... until her skeleton was discovered in a cave by Sara on her first trip to Jeffrey's home town.

Ok, where to start. I guess at the beginning? The first case is the disappearance of a teenage girl, who was basically the town bike and gave it up easily and willingly to anyone who would give her a bit of attention. She accused Jeffrey and his best friend Robert of raping her, then disappeared. The town though that she had just run away. But the allegations stuck with the two boys right up until the present day.

A little further on in time, Sara and Jeffrey take a trip to Sylacouga, Jeffrey's hometown, to visit his old pals, and for Sara to meet his mother. They are very early on in their relationship, maybe a couple of months at most. They are on their way to Florida and this is just really a little pit stop.
The small, backward, run down town and it's equally backward inhabitants don't particularly like newcomers, so Sara is regarded warily and as though she has tainted one of their own. She's about to leave when a gunshot is heard in one of the houses down the street. By the time Sarah and Jeffrey get there, they realise it is Robert's house and he has shot an intruder.

Jeffrey must try and find out the truth behind the shooting - was it accidental? Was the victim really an intruder? Why was Robert lying about his story?

Back in the present, the hostage takers are demanding to see Jeffrey and killing anyone else who gets in the way. It happens to be Lena's first day back on the job. (I am not a fan of Lena at the best of times, but in these last few books - I clearly remember why!) She, luckily, doesn't have much of a role in this book other than to show us that she is back on the force. Her Ethan story line is infuriating!! I digress.

This story is fast paced, crammed full of action and intrigue, and you won't want to put it down. I'm currently re-reading the series from the start and can't wait to get on to number 5! Read this if you want mystery and murder, don't read this is you want fluffy and happy endings.

I have left a lot out of this review because there are so many twists and turns and it would spoil it. Best just read it I suppose! :)

Getting more background on the beginning of Sara and Jeffrey’s relationship was just what I needed. I love how Karin blended two timelines together seamlessly. Great change of pace.

Definitely glad for the extra Sara and Jeffrey backstory. The present day events were tense and so were the past events! A few moments where it felt like too much was happening but overall a great read.
