I don’t know if I would have ever read this book had my book club not chosen to pick it up. I don’t know if I’ll ever read it again, but I do want to rewatch the movie, since it’s been so many years since I saw it.

Let me start by saying, I was thoroughly creeped out for the majority of this book. One word kept popping into my head every time that he traveled back to see his wife… as a child… GROOMING. He is literally grooming this child to be the perfect woman for him. It was so skeevy to me. I couldn’t get past it.

Beyond the absolute horror that is his relationship, the premise and writing weren’t so bad. I enjoyed the world building that the author put into this, but I’d rather the character not be an ALMOST pedophile.

I loved the book. If it wasn't so dirty I would give it 5 stars.

After watching (and loving) the first episode of the new sky adaptation of this book I thought I was due a reread and I'm so glad I did. I loved this book once again! The writing was gorgeous, the characters were so real at every age and the time that must have gone into writing this book for everything to be so detailed and tied together is amazing.

As this was a reread I realised there was some foreshadowing which made it even more enjoyable
and heartbreaking "if anything happens to my feet you might as well shoot me"
but everything held up so well the second time round even the emotions of that ending.

I can see why for some the writing and structure wasn't for them but for me it was perfect for the book and I would definitely recommend! Such an original idea and so well executed

I was expecting a lot out of this book, and I was disappointed. I found the way it was written very distracting, and I didn't feel a sense of urgency to finish it. It was an interesting idea, and if you don't mind flip flopping between characters in first person then you will probably love it. The ending was sad, but I am going to watch the movie now and see whether it moves me more.

This book was really interesting. Like other reviewers, I did not enjoy the end...but that is only because I created my own ending. The concept of the book was creative and that is what kept my interest for so long.

Found the female lead character annoying and naive. The random German and French blurbs did nothing for me. Ending was rather sad, though.
