Very slow, but felt like an important text, especially for all the Indigenous boys who came (and will come) back broken from fighting a US war. The jump from reality to 'magical realism'--not the term I actually like but I can't come up with anything better for a three sentence review--felt abrupt. Otherwise a sad but hopeful title that I'd recommend for anyone interested in mid-20th century history, PTSD, survivance, and what really comes after the war.

A moving and mysterious tale, since if the violence and issues are depressing but they are kicking wrapped in beautiful words like a treasured gift.

It’s one of those books where you’re kind of confused as you’re reading, but then you sit back and think about it and realize how brilliant it was. Beautiful writing too.
