This one had me gripped! Finally got to see more of some characters which helps understand the dynamics and really sets it up for what's to come. Took longer to read the end as I knew what events were coming and just couldnt face it.

I loved this book! Yet more amazing adventures of Uhtred.
The book flowed very well and took new turns that were very welcomed.
Roll on the next book!

Another rip roaring tale of Saxon England in the early 11th century, read with panache by Matt Bates. I am very hooked on these books although I dearly wish the more recent ones, like this one, included historical notes. The general historical background is quite accurate, but it would be nice to know which of the specific events recounted actually occurred.

This was my lowest scored book in the series.
It just didn't really grip me. The battle was less dramatic and it was mainly political maneuvering.

Hopefully next one is better

This was an okay book. It is a pretty standard adventure for Uthred, not much different for the ones he took part in before, usually I can read these books in a couple of days but with this one it took me much longer for some reason.. There were some dark twists here, and I do love seeing Uthred's children and the way their lives unfold. All in all fun but nothing special.

I really enjoyed this book. Once again, I was completely entwined in Lord Uhtred's adventures. I feared the ending of this book, but was thankfully surprised to be wrong. Bernard Cornwell does a fantastic job of making the story real to his readers. I am so glad to have found this series, and while I know it can't go on forever, I dread the day it comes to an end. Long live Lord Uhtred!

This was amazing. The series has some great books, some good books and some books that just move the story along. Books 5-7 were ok, they lacked something that the others had. Book 8 started ramping back up and I really enjoyed it but I think Book 9 is currently my favorite. It was just so wonderful!

It has a LOT of fighting. Two deaths of major characters, one long awaited and beautifully done and one I wish had been given the honor of a major characters death, because it was a major character, but instead of a great death sequence it was summed up in a paragraph (and that is my only complaint of this book). Lots of action. Lots of movement. Lots of tricks, disguises and misdirection. And a whole lot of family reunion.

If I could give this book more stars I would. It was FANTASTIC! I don't think it would be as good if just read alone, it needs the history of the other books to make some of the best parts that much better, but I highly recommend it!
