This was adorable and powerful. Maisie is a disabled teen going to her first ever con with her geeky mum. There she meets Ollie, a nonbinary teen volunteering at the event. The two have an instant connection and are able to spend the whole con together. This story also showed what its like for a disabled person who lives with chronic pain navigating the world. From ableism to needing to take breaks, and how representation is so important. This was charming and full of geeky references.

Wonderful to see a story addressing elements of fandom, queerness, and disability in a realistic and approachable manner. The banter between mother and daughter was hilarious. As for the romantic elements,  I was disappointed at
the lack of "closure" or even any possible future meetup for the lovebirds.
But I suppose this way is more realistic.

This is why representation is so important!!! If only I had something like this when I was a teenager…I think I would accepted my queerness and disabilities much faster.

Seeing disabled characters be disabled, and not have it magically disappear, healed something in me. Disabled people live normal lives, we can be nerdy too. I’m really glad that Maisie’s mum wasn’t holding her back from things, and giving her agency to do things on her own, as you often see in stories with disabled characters.

Having chronic pain and represented made me feel seen. It really showed how inaccessible fandom spaces can be - comic cons are big place but so many people. Showing how overstimulating cons can be was validating - I really liked the way they illustrated Maisie’s panic attack.

I was a bit stunned when Maisie’s mum outed her as bisexual to Ollie - that was a bit weird and unnecessary. Parents can be intense, I guess.

I liked the silly offbrand references to franchises, very relatable.

I’d honestly read another story about Maisie and maybe her continuing connection to Ollie.

I loved the nonbinary representation and the chronic illness/disability representation!
I didn't love the rushed relationship between the characters and the one-note plot.

I bought this book, initially, hoping to have it as part of my "Little Library" I maintain for the middle schoolers I work with. Alas, the book didn't make the cut; it wasn't interesting enough, and it uses the phrase "inspiration porn" (thereby becoming inappropriate for school). As someone who identifies as part of the disability community, I am 100% familiar with the concept of "inspiration porn" but the phrase does open itself up to a host of concerns in a school setting (unfortunately!).  AKA, don't make the mistake I did of buying it for a school setting :')

I loved this graphic novel. Helping people to see themselves in others. Queer and disabled teens falling in love for the first time at a Comic-Con event. Understanding how we take care of each other. It was so sweet and I will be recommending this graphic novel to many others.
