What I liked about this book: the focus on the developing relationship and the laid-back vibe. Rex was a sweetheart for the most part. Some parts of their first two encounters were a bit weird, I would even describe Rex’ behaviour as creepy. Thankfully, once we get past that section of the book he improves a lot and I ended up liking him quite a bit. Daniel's relationship with his family was well-done.

What I didn't like: Daniel did not sound like a professor in his 30s, and while Rex was better, he didn’t read like his supposed age either. The characters constantly saying "um" and" like" were a bit painful to read through, and Daniel was the worst offender. The constant use of pet names. Daniel's emotional immaturity.

Overall it was a nice read.

This was my first read by Roan Parrish, and omg I am in luhrve. This is my favorite kind of romance, where two people who have been knocked around by life meet, fall in love, and are just...good to each other. Daniel is a professor, a bookworm who muscled his way into intellectual circles from a blue collar upbringing, raised with a houseful of brothers by a single dad. His new job is at a college in a small town in Michigan, and it’s a far cry from the busy city life he’s used to. He’s not sure how long he’ll want to stay until he meets Rex, and I can’t blame him for the change of heart because Rex is THE BEST. He lives in a cabin he built himself. He’s a woodworker who makes custom furniture. He is a self-taught gourmet cook. He is a big tender-hearted softie who just wants to take care of Daniel and I am so here for it. Can’t wait to read more of Parrish’s work!

Really liked the narrator for this book. The story was very spicy, emotional somewhat & gave me cause for laughter a few times.

Cute and looong

I liked the ending of the book but it was a bit of a chore to get through. I didn’t really buy the couple together until the last few chapters. I am not sure why it was clicking for me…

A few things I didn’t really care for

-I couldn’t really picture what the MCs looked like from the authors very base descriptions and that bothered me.
-Daniel’s inability to form coherent sentences every though he is an English professor with a PhD. It was jarring and annoying. Also, the detailed, repetitive, and annoying explanations of how to construct a thesis/paper was a snooze.
-The book is unnecessarily long and filled with a bunch of fluff.

I do absolutely love Rex and I like Daniel. While I like the book, I don’t think I will every read it again.

Eh, just don't feel like I'm going to pick it back up anytime soon. Nothing wrong with it, just a LOT of on-page sex, and I'm more about the lead-up, ya know?
