Great example of YA portraying realistic mental illness and complicated familial relationships. I really loved this, especially Darius’ relationship with his dad and Sohrab.

This book is really wonderful. It covers depression in a thoughtful, realistic way, and shows how you can still have a life with mental illness. I thoroughly enjoyed learning about Persian culture and history, and Darius' narration was engaging. The author did an incredible job writing each of Darius' relationships with his family members and other characters. This is a comforting, easy-to-read, slice-of-life book.
