It was ok, compelling enough for me. I enjoyed the voice and the layered main character. It was a lil too gruesome for me (reminding me that I read the Mac Bolan series as an 11 & 12 year old, yikes). I liked the throughline.

Whenever I read a book written by a native author the most interesting part is the description of culture, life inside reservation, and such. This case is no different. The plot and mystery are okay, I was kinda expecting more in that regard, but all the information about how crime is dealt within reservations is a real gem.

This book gave important insight into what life is like on reservations and was from a perspective that isn't well represented in popular media. It did a good job of incorporating very real struggles into a work of fiction. The characters were interesting and complicated but I'm not sure any of them were fully flushed out. The plot was engaging but it wasn't quite a "can't put it down" thriller.

This was an excellent choice for Native American Heritage Month, a superb thriller written by an author from the Sicangu Lakota Nation.

The character Virgil Wounded Horse really draws you in and I just thoroughly enjoyed this book!
