Hart learns to let go, Eleanor won't be pushed around and Ian is my favorite.

Hart was the last of the Mackenzie brothers. His story was odd as he wasn't much of a likable fellow and he stayed just as unlikable as the story progressed. I was entertained but I loved Mac's story best!

I have enjoyed the Mackenzie family. Hart has been the protector his entire life. He is determined to be respected and to get out from under his father's shadow. Things need to go his way and people need to do what he says. He was in love once upon a time but she broke their engagement and broke his heart. When she strolls back into his life, his determined to make her his wife.
I enjoyed seeing the brothers and watching Hart come to realize what he really wants in life. The book was okay but it is not one that I will remember.

This is a high 3 stars! I liked it a lot. I thought the second chance of it all did make sense and that their arc back to each other was pretty natural. It went a little bit off the rails with the ~dramatic event~ near the end and the whole bit where he’s in hiding but I liked where Hart ended up as a character as a result more than where his arc was going before. The only thing that was funny was it kept saying like he was crazyyy in bed and really spicy but she never really wrote any truly spicy/kinky scenes lol.

I remember really liking Eleanor while reading it but now a few days later I don’t remember too much about what I liked. I feel like the Mackenzie man vibe dominates so much of the story/series that sometimes the women don’t feel quite as fully realized in comparison? And then they all just get folded into the Mackenzie family with very little connection to the outside world idk.

Really didn't care for Hart as a character, but oh sweet Ian. Ian is in my top 10 favorite male characters of all time.

I very much appreciate the Victorian setting, and Hart (the Duke of the title) has the ambition to replace Gladstone as Prime Minister. He's obsessively driven, and unsettled when his ex-fiance Eleanor shows up saying she received a nude picture of him in the mail.

There are many great things about this book, and I did like Eleanor and the initial setup. I found the resolution of the mystery of the photos satisfying, but there's another hero in peril storyline with an ending that I found less satisfying. I didn't buy that Hart would have done (or rather NOT done) after what happened, leaving his family in the dark as to his situation and health. Trying to talk about it without spoilers is frustrating. It just didn't work for me. But I still enjoyed all the bits leading up to that, and I will definitely continue with the series. I have all the novellas on my kindle already, and I can't wait to read Daniel's story.
