“The price we paid for the resentment, the lust, and the greed of arrogant men was our pain, shining and bright like the blade of a newly honed knife.”

Ariadne by Jennifer Saint is a poignant retelling of the myth of Ariadne, daughter of Minos and Pasiphae, half sister to the Minotaur. Although I greatly enjoyed the writing, her story is a somber one, focusing on what Ariadne and the women around her suffer at the hands of gods and heroes alike. For those familiar with her tale, the myth of the labyrinth makes up less than a quarter of the book.

Of all the character driven books that I have read (ex Circe, Morgan Is My Name) this was my favourite.
