This book was very atmospheric and introspective, and I really appreciated it. Although I think half the reason I loved this as much as I did is because I am a HUGE Greek mythology nerd, I also think people who just want to hear more female voices will find this a good read- it definitely left me with some interesting perspectives to ponder. Overall, this really helped bring mythology alive in a way I strongly appreciate, even if the pacing is a bit slow-- there is a good portion of the book where not much happens-- and if I would have appreciated a bit more depth/time with some of the characters.

My heart breaks for the women of this story: Ariadne, Phaedra, Pasiphae, Seleme, the Argive women. Men sucking is truly ancient. If you’re a fan of Greek mythology retellings, particularly Circe by Madeleine Miller, definitely pick up Ariadne.

Gorgeous feminist retelling, emphasizes the plight of women in Greek mythos. At times dialogue was wordy but otherwise descriptions flowed effortlessly. Saint does a good job at creating a deep sense of unease in readers as one discovers betrayals alongside the characters.

I had heard several good things about this book so when I decided to read it, I was quite excited. However, I was left quite disappointed as, even for such a short book, it seemed to drag on and on at times about myths that barely pertained to the story and the ending, to me, felt a little lack luster. Overall, it was an okay read with really amazing moments in it but everything between those moments just make my attention wonder elsewhere.

solid story and characterization, Ariadne’s life lent itself well to a feminist retelling, though incredibly heavy at times, even for myth
