An unexpectedly thrilling read! I wasn't expecting much from this book, but I ended up really enjoying it. The world-building is interesting, dropping tidbits of information here and there, enough to keep me interested without revealing everything. The characters were intriguing, the storyline was exciting and kept me wanting to turn the next page. On to the second book!

This book was SO GOOD! The characters and the story is interesting and unique, and Anne Bishop holds it together and unravels it masterfully. Can't wait to read the other books in the series.

I always expect a lot from Anne Bishop because I've loved her books since her Blood Jewels Trilogy and this book did not disappoint me in the least. This book was the best of Urban Fantasy, it created a unique look at what would've happened if when humans came to America if they didn't meet Native Americans but met the Others. Vampires, werewolves, elementals etc. First off I have to start with Meg. I love Meg and as per usual with Bishop's heroines I have a feeling that she will turn into a stronger more snarly human with encouragement from Simon. Speaking of Simon! I love Simon, he's a little bit darker than the usual male role in Anne Bishop's books but I do love him as a character and as a Wolf he was amazing. I loved seeing his protective instincts and Bishop does such an amazing job of making you feel like you can understand his primal instinct.
Some of my favorite parts of this book weren't even with Simon and Meg. Poor little Sam he broke my heart with the way he grew attached to Meg and then when Elliot ripped him away. I know that Tess is one scary character but I love that even Meg managed to squirm her way into Tess's good graces. I will admit that Winter was one of my favorite characters period. I loved when the rest of the Elementals met Meg but I still think that Winter is on her own a favorite. I loved the Sanguinista's all of them. I love that even the secondary characters are well developed and have distinct personalities. I will definitely reread this book as is usual with any of Anne Bishop's books. I can't wait for the next one!

Loved it! Took some time to really feel like I knew all of the players and the world being created (since there's a lot going on) but once I did it was fabulous. The characters are unique and incredibly well drawn across the board. I love that these shifters and vamps are nothing quite like what I've read before. Their "Otherness" is much more obvious and not even able to be hidden if they wanted to. And Meg is a fantastic lead that you can't help but root for and sympathize with every step of the way. I was reluctant to put the book down every single time I had to. This makes me want to dig up every series Anne Bishop has written and read them all! Can't wait to see where this one leads.

This was surprising! A great read, with a fun new take on paranormal shenanigans and nature vs tech battles. It was spice light, but I see the potential for some long-game romance. Can't wait to see how that goes! The pace ramped up nicely for the final scenes! I couldn't put it down. Many charming characters and fun personalities, each pretty well developed with growth across the arc of the book. Looking forward to MoC!
