When I found Bubbe's Belated Bat Mitzvah on the library shelf, it was the illustrations that caught my eye. They seemed familiar to [b:A Tale of Two Seders|7889095|A Tale of Two Seders|Mindy Avra Portnoy|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1363702683s/7889095.jpg|11110729], and lo and behold, Valeria Cis drew both. Her people are a little bobble-headed, but the colors are fantastic and always enhance the story being told.
As for the story, it was incredibly sweet, as young Naomi encourages Bubbe, her great-grandmother, to bat mizvah since she didn't have the opportunity as a girl. I didn't expect to get a history lesson on the coming-of-age tradition; it's fascinating that not so long ago, girls were not allowed the Jewish rite of passage. An interesting picture book as well as bright in spirit and tone.
