What a fantastic book.  The author's reflections on her own body and life are personal, yet so many of the thoughts could be what any of us think.  While I'm not a huge fan of personal essays or memoirs, this one touched me.

I truly believe this is required reading. Gay is fantastic & brutality honest. I truly feel her work has changed me & I wish I could make everyone I love or encounter read her. Because even though this book is difficult it’s necessary.

I respect Gay’s perspective and appreciate her honesty about life as a very fat person - those parts were so refreshing to read. I think what didn’t connect for me was the tone - Roxane doesn’t seem like a very happy person. She felt guarded even in writing something so vulnerable.

This memoir is so full of emotion and gut-wrenching truths about the ways society unfairly views and treats fat people, told with excellent writing and unflinching bluntness. I listened to Roxane Gay tell her own story on audiobook and it definitely enhanced the experience. This book will make you confront your own internal prejudices and biases towards fat people, especially very obese people, and make you question why society refuses to change to be more accepting and accommodating to people who are being constantly told that their bodies are a problem regardless of the fact that they are just human beings like anyone else. Roxane Gay's personal story is heartbreaking and intense, and I truly respect her choice to share the details and help others going through similar things realize that they are not alone.

This was an eye-opening, thought-provoking memoir that I think everyone, especially those who are not fat, should read. Roxane Gay is a master of writing.
