“I can’t promise your journey will be good, I actually guarantee that it won’t. I can’t promise glorious days or shining redemption. I am here to assure the opposite; you will be faced with the hardest days of your life. The agony is incessant, unyielding, but when you get to the point where you feel like everything’s gone, there’s a little twist, a flame, a small shift. It is subtle, it comes when you least expect it. Wait for it. This is the rule of the universe, this is the one thing in life I know to be true. No matter how awful and long your journey, I can promise you the turn. One day it will lift.”

this was a dense, heavy book despite being only fourteen chapters. but super, super important and i recommend everyone read it. we love you, chanel miller <3

A visceral and searing indictment of the myriad ways in which the criminal justice system fails and traumatizes victims....a heartwarming tale of personal resilience and endurance.....a tale of support and comradeship of sexual assault survivors....a harrowing tale of rape culture, sexism, and classism that is codified into the current u.s. legal systems

And difficult read that is an absolute must.

This book was so powerful and important to consume. I’m glad that I went the route of audiobook so that I could hear it in Chanel’s voice because I feel like that added an extra element that I wouldn’t have had in a physical or ebook.

My only qualms with the writing is the language being heavily geared towards woman as the victims. I would have liked to have heard that being more inclusive because it’s not just women, but I digress. This book is still an important look behind the curtains into the reality of what it’s like to survive being sexually assaulted.
