Uki, Jorie, Kree and Mooka have been victorious together, but they have a hard fight ahead of them against a difficult (and relatable) enemy. The spirit of Pestilence has taken over the rich life of the swamp lands and must be stopped before thousands die of plague. As always, their adventures are in the past and told to readers (and Rue) simultaneously by our good friend the Bard.
