As I was listening to this I kept thinking it felt super familiar. The further into it I got the more I felt it. In the end I realized it’s very similar to A Simple Favor which is a favorite of mine. While this one is technically older, I read it after and I do feel that this has affected the way that I enjoyed this one.

There are major differences but they’re similar enough that I found myself comparing and this is a recipe for disaster in reading books. This one wasn’t as enjoyable for me. There was so much drama I honestly found it unbearable. By the time it started getting good I was already over it and that’s unfortunate.

It never really redeemed itself from the less than interesting beginning. While it did become gripping and interesting, that just didn’t overcome the early parts.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ since it did eventually become interesting.

Thanks to NetGalley for the 2022 version of the audiobook!

An enjoyable book. This felt like a domestic style drama. It isn't until later in the book that it gets suspenseful. The plot kept me interested and I liked all the twists and turns. Some parts were a little predictable, which is why I gave it 3 stars.

I received this book from NetGalley in return for a honest review

An enjoyable read but a bit too predictable and "Hollywood drama" for me.

“You can't write the script to your life. You can't say, if I do this and this, then all these things will definitely happen. Life doesn't work that way.”

*** A copy of this book was kindly provided to me by the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you! ***

A while back I was approached by the author with the question if I wanted to read her newest psychological thriller The Best Friend. After thoroughly enjoying The Girl From The Sea back in August, you can already guess my answer! This new novel has definitely confirmed me I took the right decision when I added Shalini Boland to my list of new favorite authors. Everything about The Best Friend just works and I simply flew through the pages, sitting on the edge of my seat for the duration of the ride. This story is psychological thriller at its best! It's a well written and fast-paced read that will keep you on edge as the many many plot twists slowly reveal themselves. The main characters might not all be completely likeable, but the character development is more than excellent. Both Louisa and Darcy are brilliant in their own way and they are probably the reason this story is as good as it is. If you are a fan of the genre, don't miss out and add The Best Friend to your list!

Wondering what psychological thriller to read next? Look no further! The Best Friend is without doubt one of the best psychological thrillers I've read so far this year and it will appeal to any fan of the genre. It's a fast-paced and well written story with many plot twists, an excellent character development and just the right dose of suspense. It's a true pageturner that will keep you on the edge of your seat the whole time!

Audiobook Review
Really enjoyed this, listened to the entire book in 2 days, even with work through it!
The narrator Katie Villa has narrated other Boland books and I recognised her voice straight away! She always gives a fantastic performance on the books I have listened to previously.
I loved this, the trope of 'someone making someone look crazy' always makes for a suspenseful and gripping read, and this was no different!
I was gripped throughout, and although I didn't quite 'get' the ending, and had to relisten without distractions, this was a fantastic book and I loved how it all came together.
Boland always gives me a really enjoyable read!
